Children’s groups are welcomed daily by reservation at the château de Vayres.

Available for school groups and leisure center : an adapted guided tour, park riddles, and themed workshops. Each activity lasts about one hour and is supervised by specialized facilitators.

• The guided tour of the château:

Preschoolers: A short tour focused on the spectacular and distinctive aspects of a castle (architecture, habitat, etc.).

Primary school students: A more in-depth tour that delves into the history of castles. Fully adapted to the age and abilities of the children. Vayres illustrates the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Classical period through its architecture.

• The riddles:

A playful and educational hour in the park.
Supervised by our staff.

Preschoolers: An individual booklet of riddles is given at the beginning of the visit.

Primary school students: An individual game booklet, adapted to their level, is provided at the beginning of the visit to be used in the park.

2nd formula

3 activities, each lasting one hour

This is a more extensive day, adding a themed workshop to the previous program.

1 theme per class or group of 25 to 30 children. The children take home what they have created during the workshop.

• You can download a presentation sheet detailing the content of each workshop.

• We indicate below which themes are suitable for different levels.

The themes

• Becoming a knight: ancient weapons, chivalric values, knighthood ceremony… Illustration of a small shield to take home.

• Young architect: An educational and fun approach – illustrated glossary of defensive architecture – drawing of a castle with its features or making a model of a keep.

• My beautiful castle: A simplified version of the previous theme for younger children. What are the functions of a medieval castle? Description of the main elements. Creation and decoration of a ‘castle-bag’ to take home.

• Initials and Illumination: A reflection on the emergence and evolution of writing. Illustration of the initial letter of one’s name (simplified for younger children).

• The art of stained glass: History, technique, and symbolism of stained glass. Creation of a stained-glass-style decoration on a transparent plaque.

• Gardens through time: The evolution of gardens (medieval – French formal – English landscape) in relation to societal changes. Observation of the characteristics of these three types of gardens. Creation of an individual pop-up model.

Beliefs and fabulous animals: Unicorns, witches, and werewolves inhabit the forests during the time of medieval castles. The fears of the Middle Ages. Clay modeling of an imaginary animal to take home.
