The life of the château is not limited to its illustrious history. The monument remains alive, evolving, driven by the passion of those responsible for its maintenance and the welcoming of visitors. Beyond the daily upkeep of buildings of such magnitude, a large-scale restoration campaign is necessary and undertaken each year.
The work is carried out under the authority of the Chief Architect of Historical Monuments, the Regional Conservator of Historical Monuments, and an Architect of the Buildings of France. «The restoration of a Historical Monument is a cultural act that goes far beyond a common intervention. It requires a specific and comprehensive understanding of archaeology, history, architecture, its decor, and its function. Thus, while the restoration project must meet specific technical needs, it must not, however, disrupt the interpretation of the monument’s historical testimony.» (CRMH / DRAC)
